Managing My Diabetes

Millions of people have diabetes. Although diabetes is a serious health problem, with proper care you can learn to manage your diabetes and lead a full and active life. But first, you need to learn how to take care of yourself.

When you have diabetes, there are two parts to learning to take care of yourself. The first part is to gain the knowledge about diabetes that will help you make good choices. The second part is to develop the skills to put that knowledge to use in your daily life.

This section focuses on the second part – learning how to make taking medication, checking your glucose levels, healthy eating, and being active part of your diabetes care plan. You can also learn how to reduce your risks for diabetes-related complications, develop skills for solving problems you encounter, cope with the challenges of living with diabetes, and work effectively with your diabetes care team.

If you haven’t visited Learning About Diabetes already, you may want to review that section before going through Managing My Diabetes.
