Voices of Diabetes

In reading some of the letters written here, I see that so many people just feel like giving up. Been there, done that. But, I reminded myself of the severe consequences that my body and lifestyle would eventually face. It was not a pretty sight.

I think we all have to let go of the idea that someone is out there who will ride up on that white horse and rescue us from this dreadful disease. It just isn't going to happen. We live in a culture where there are so many cures on the horizon. We really expect someone is there right now, just around the corner, with the cure-all. NOT!

I have had so many surgeries in my life for so many different things and so many health-related issues that have been with me for many years. But, this is not going to get the best of me. I could write 3 best sellers on just the adversities in my life. I will not dwell on any of them. I have living to do. I do have some "frumpy" days. I also have many "great" days. When I go to bed at night, I say my prayers and then after I close in prayer, I say to myself, "Whatever." That one word gives me power.

I hope that all of you diabetics out there--young or old, type 1 or type 2--can find hope in this New Year.
