I have been an insulin-dependent type 2 diabetic taking
insulin for 25 years. Now, I am taking multiple injections of insulin. I test
my blood sugar (glucose) 6 to 8 times per day--when I get up in the morning
before exercising (I swim or workout in the gym faithfully every day), before breakfast,
mid-morning, before lunch, in the afternoon, before dinner, 2 hours after
eating, and then before bed. I adjust my insulin accordingly, based on my blood
tests.
My A1C has averaged 6.3% to 6.5% for the past 5 years. If
there is a secret, it is EXERCISE and obviously following a good diet. I do
cheat sometimes on my diet, but I make it up with exercise and closely
monitoring my blood sugar. I have no other diabetes-related problems or
symptoms.
If you have to have a serious disease, diabetes is the
one to have, because we can control it and live a happy, normal life with lots
of joy and happiness.
