Voices Of Diabetes

Voices of Diabetes

I was diagnosed with diabetes in May 1986.  I did well controlling my blood sugar (glucose) with just diet and exercise for about 8 years.  Then I was on pills, and in 2001, went to insulin.

I have stayed involved with support groups and other people with diabetes. They really help me to stay motivated and avoid burnout. I have helped to get a support group started in our community and recently started an exercise class, too.  I find when I am with other people that deal with most of the same things I do every day, it is easier to stay motivated. And, we have so much fun sharing in the support group and exercise class that you don't really realize that you are helping your blood sugar and are getting in--and keeping in--control.
