Voices of Diabetes

Tonight, after receiving e-mail, I spent about an hour reading all the material. One that caught my attention is a lady from PA who has encountered several health problems after being diagnosed diabetic.

My paternal grandmother was a diabetic. I hardly remember her. I was too young when she passed from liver cancer. My mom was diagnosed when I was about 16 years old. My brother became one before I did. He is almost 2 years younger than I am. My husband passed away 16 years ago from liver cancer, but was also a diabetic — the only one in his family.

Before I was ever diagnosed, I had a TIA (Transient Ischemic Attack, or "mini-stroke"), so the doctor said. I read a lot about my pains and aches. Finally, I thought I had fybromyalgia. All my life I have been dieting, now cannot lose any weight. The pains, the tingling in my limbs — everything is wrong. Even my memory fails. I could go on and on.

Hope this helps someone.
