Voices of Diabetes

I am 79 years old and have had type 1 diabetes since I was 14 years old.  I have 3 children and 7 grandchildren.  When my husband died 4 years ago, I secured a pump.  I live by myself (well, I do have a Persian cat), handle my own affairs, drive my own car, and even travel.

I have gone from sterilizing a syringe daily and running urine sugar tests with Benedict's solution in 1943, to multiple insulin shots daily, to my pump. I have been blessed with a caring family, good doctors, understanding friends, and the faith and intelligence to live a good, longer-than-average life.
