I relocated to Florida from Maryland and started having problems with my skin right away. The next year, I was diagnosed with discoid lupus. My doctor had started me on prednisone after trying several skin creams with no effect. My health started to become impaired. I lost weight, had breakthrough bleeding and anemia. I was sleepless, listless, always tired, my tongue became coated white, skin became dull and breakouts started again.
I was also rushed to the hospital, where I was diagnosed with prednisone-induced diabetes. There is a lot of information on type 1 and type 2 diabetes, but not much on prednisone-induced diabetes. I haven’t used prednisone recently, but my weight loss is extremely slow. I have tried various health spas, to no avail, and I am becoming frustrated. I need to lose about 35 to 40 pounds and I will be happy, but it is so hard.
I am a certified middle grade schoolteacher, and I have my blood work, doctor appointments and dental appointments every three months until June 2008 when the school I taught at was closed due to budget cuts. I have not been able to afford any appointments recently due to lack of insurance. I am also depressed due to lack of a job. I try to stay positive but right now it is hard. I am married and my husband is a great support, as are my son and two daughters, but I don't think that they really understand what I am going through right now. I hope there are others with prednisone-induced diabetes that can help me, or direct me to where I can get some support.
Thanks
