Voices of Diabetes

My mother was 80 years old when she passed. Two years before, she was listed as terminal with COPD (Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease) and heart problems. On top of all of this was diabetes.

I found out this year that I had diabetes, too. I had been with my mother when she took a dive, and she dropped to 30 mg/dL on her blood sugar (glucose). So, I knew this was not a disease to play around with.

I have been overweight most of my life after my kids were born. Taking a positive outlook on diabetes and telling myself that I will beat it and not let it beat me helped me a lot. Learning about nutrition and taking my pricks with my diabetic machine taught me how to eat properly and what triggers my high sugar. Exercising helps, too. I have now gotten it under control and am still working on it.
