Voices of Diabetes

I was diagnosed with juvenile diabetes in January of 1970. My blood glucose (sugar) was 998 mg/dL and I weighed 111 lbs. I entered the hospital and was immediately placed on insulin therapy and a meal plan. In 3 days I gained 12 lbs. and felt great! 

In 1973, I entered the ministry, and in 1980, I became a hospital chaplain. While serving as a chaplain intern, I spent some off-hours in the physicians' library reading many materials on diabetes.

At the present time of September 2007, I continue serving as chaplain in a very busy emergency department. I am doing very well and, at age 60, I have no plans for retirement.
