Voices of Diabetes

This is in reply to Ron S., a recently diagnosed diabetic also having cardio problems.  Good for you, and keep up the good work regarding taking care of your body!

I've been diabetic for almost 38 years and have always gone out of my way to take good care of myself.  The only non-medical complication I have is diabetic unawareness, which may be related to strictly regimented avoidance of high blood sugars (glucose) since I was diagnosed. Yes, I've had many hypoglycemic reactions, but there's got to be a happy medium. Hopefully, you can find it.

I've been in excellent health since being diagnosed, which I attribute to taking good care of myself. Socially, it's a pain to stick with healthy eating, but the end result is definitely worth it. I exercise regularly and believe that managing what you eat is the strongest fight we have to put up in order to take care of ourselves.  Sure, it's not fun passing up the goodies that friends are eating between meals, but the (hopefully) resulting good health is so worth it--and much better than the alternative!

Best wishes.
