Voices of Diabetes

In response to “Just diagnosed at age 29”: That's the same age I was when I diagnosed myself.  My father had type 1 diabetes, so I recognized the symptoms and went to my doctor to be tested, admitted and regulated. My advice to anyone recently diagnosed with either type 1 or type 2 diabetes is to go to an endocrinologist.

Diabetes isn't a disease that can be ignored without consequences. Your goal should be to live as long and pleasantly as possible, with your eyes, toes, heart and kidneys as intact as humanly possible—in SPITE of having diabetes.

If oral meds aren't enough, then intensive metering and insulin should be considered.
