Voices Of Diabetes

Voices of Diabetes

I was diagnosed with type 2 at age 45 and at age 53 went on insulin. I know for me that the more I understand this disease the more I can act accordingly. I have taken some really neat classes offered by the local diabetes educators and have asked a lot of questions at the public health seminars put on for diabetics. I think the thing that works for me is to be constantly aware of my illness, get the facts and latest information out there (and there is plenty out there!) and just make it work for me and my lifestyle (retired). At times I feel like I just want this to go away, but I know it won't and I can't just give up. So, my strategy is to keep a food journal, keep myself informed and to exercise when I can. What also helps is having a supportive spouse.
