Voices Of Diabetes

Voices of Diabetes

I thought I escaped my family's inheritance of diabetes. But I have been a diabetic for about 2 weeks now, and I'm trying my best to cope with it.

It was very depressing at first, because I couldn't believe that it would happen to me. Just seeing what my father and grandmother went through horrified me. Nobody wants to be stricken with any disease, so it was a shock to find out the way I found out. Nobody told me that your whole life would completely change. My father is not watching what he eats or drinks, so naturally, I was thinking that being a diabetic wasn't hard at all.  But now that I am one and I am watching what I eat, it is very hard.

It's hard to cope with, but being around people who care about you and what you eat or whether you have taken your medicine yet makes a big difference when you're young like I am.
