Voices of Diabetes

I found out that I had diabetes in Sept of 2006. I wasn't surprised. In fact, I told my doctor when I made the appointment that I was sure I had diabetes: Extreme thirst, extreme fatigue, weight loss of 30 lbs. I tried meds first and then found out that my kidneys were in distress. So, off the meds and on insulin.

I fought insulin. I wanted to do this on my own. I counted everything I put into my mouth and to no avail. Even if I cheated, I wrote it down. Nothing worked.

I was working very close with my diabetes doctor. She was wonderful. I was getting frustrated. First type of insulin really did nothing. I still had too many highs. Then I would go way too low. She finally switched me to two types of insulin.

I feel so much better now after 3 months on this new regime. Stick with it. Anyone can give up the ship. I wasn't about to let my body go to heck. I have kidney disease stage 3. I found that out in January of 2007. But, life is what I make it. I have not got cardiovascular disease or cancer. I feel so very blessed that I have a disease I can get a handle on.

Thank you so kindly.
