Voices of Diabetes

I have had type 1 diabetes since 1968, when I was diagnosed at age 4.5 years. I've used an insulin pump since 1992, and in my current position as a Nursing Supervisor, I can't imagine maintaining the stability I currently have on injection therapy. Who knows when I'll be able to break for lunch? With my pump, if a meeting gets called unexpectedly when I normally eat, no big deal. I can float through with no problems until we break, and I can bolus for a meal when I'm ready to eat it.

The insulin pump has made it easy to work and not be stuck to a rigid schedule. I am fully functional and able to do anything I need to do. I thank pump therapy for that and for the fact that, after 39 years with diabetes, I can enjoy life to its fullest!
