Voices of Diabetes

This is intended for the person who voiced concern over the high co-pays for his insulin, etc. I recently started taking insulin versus pills and to my surprise the cost was really out of sight. Initially, I tried to place an order for syringes and kept being told that I needed to go through the pharmacy benefit of my insurance. This did not make sense to me because I thought syringes should be covered as “durable medical equipment.”

After dogging this matter and escalating it, I found someone who was willing to work with me. The long and short of it is that buried in the recesses of the insurance benefit booklet, we found that insulin and the associated materials necessary to administer and manage diabetic meds are exempted from a co-pay. All I am saying is don't take no for an answer. If you have insurance, perhaps yours will cover your meds in more than one way.
