Voices Of Diabetes

Voices of Diabetes

I wanted to respond to the story from John B., the 77 year old diagnosed with type 1 diabetes mellitus. (Has War Caused My Battle With Diabetes?)

Unfortunately, I can't relate any Agent Orange stories, but I do remember when I was diagnosed in 1981. There was a gentleman in the hospital at the same time that I was who had also been diagnosed with type 1 diabetes mellitus. He was 72 years old.  We attended the diabetes classes in the hospital together.  Our rooms were next to each other, so we always compared our meals and urine checks...Just a little friendly competition. He was almost 50 years older than I was, but we both shared the same anxiety about what the future would hold for us.  I often wonder what happened to him, as we lost contact when I moved.
