Voices of Diabetes

Hi! My name is Debbie, and I've had type 1 diabetes going on 48 years. It's been a long haul with just a couple complications.

I agree with getting support, because I do not have any either. I have no family left except for my husband, and he is not here for me--physically nor mentally. He is out a lot, but when he is here, it doesn't even faze him. My loaded stress comes from this. I am on medications for my stress, but it doesn't always help.

Through my years, I have found out that there are sooo many people that do not realize what we go through and have to do on a daily basis. For me, it has never really been easy, and I have my days--good and bad. My mom was the only person to really understand, as she was diagnosed 10 years after me. Beforehand, she was there for me for everything. If she did not get me to the ER (emergency room) when she did, I would not be here today.

I would love support from another diabetic. I feel like I need some!
