Voices of Diabetes

When I first had symptoms of being diabetic, I was driving a semi-truck. I was in Las Vegas, NV, but from Washington state. I got the dry mouth and peeing all the time, but was still in denial. At last, I went to the V.A. hospital in American Lake. My sugar (glucose) was 750 mg/dL and rising. They put me on IV and regular insulin. It stayed down two days. Back to hospital, 500 mg/dL reading. The doctor gave me pills that made me sick, so I had to do insulin.

At first, I thought, "Why me?" Then I have found out this disease is rampant in the USA. I now take multiple shots of insulin a day. It seems like a lot, but it keeps things in check. I also changed hospitals recently, and they seem to be doing a better job at helping me stay on top of this stuff.

A good support team is a must. Without it, your chance of beating this stuff goes down.
